This process took 8 hours on an older Celeron M, and ~1.2 hours on a 1st gen I7 mobile and use about 4 gig of hard drive space each time you attempt to run it the script. Install PyBOMBS:ĭownload the gnu radio pybombs recipes from git. The following is from the blog instructions above. But luckily someone with GNU radio wrote a blog post who know how to communicate and make things user friendly. It does not even state what the purpose of PyBOMBS is…just that there is no warranty for what is implied that it might do…way to go. There are no examples of what is going on. Again, the readme is terrible and probably only makes sense to the developer. Again.if you do not need UHD or HackRF drivers I would suggest just installing from the normal Ubuntu package repository. You may not be using UHD, but PyBOMBS will not install gnu radio with out it. UHD allows GNU radio to be used with Ettus Research USRPS. Boost is a set of development tools that is used by the UHD library. I installed a newer version of python and it did not resolve. Lots of useless information that does not actually help resolve the problem. I spent time following all the trails that the warnings lead you down. Continue if it fails:Īt this point you will start getting ssl warnings. The next two lines failed on a AMD64 version of ubuntu, but had no effect on install. Sudo apt-get install python-pip python-dev build-essential Pip is one of the many methods to install python packages: Once Ubuntu is up and running and connected to the Internet. I realize I do not go over how to install Ubuntu. Gnuradio, UHD, and OSOMOCOM are perfect examples of applications that are not user friendly to install or use (well at least UHD and OSOMOCOM).Įnough ranting…below is the process. But will likely immediately not work as GNURadio has so many dependences that it is almost impossible for the normal user to get it up and running. These instructions work as the time of publication. Do no follow the readme in the PyBombs git repository…they do not give examples of how to install…and it will fail out of the box for Ubuntu 14.04. GNU Radio Live image works, but can not save data across boots and OS is slow running from USB or DVD.ĭo not try the gnu radio build scripts…they will not work. Basic FM radio receiver would would just make garble noises. But gnu radio could not read data from HackRF quick enough. I was successful installing Ubuntu and GNU radio with HackRF and OSOMOCOM drivers under virtual machine. Do not even attempt to install this way…it will not work and you will be installing the whole OS over again unless you are Linux developer…and if you are you should not be reading these instructions… But if you have a HackRF One you are out of luck. This used to not work with USRP but now it does…thank goodness. If you are using USRP from Ettus Research or using just the sound card interface, I recommend just doing a simple install from the Ubuntu package manager. I used x386 version, but for modern computers use AMD64 version. The computer I had available to run Linux on was an older Celeron M machine and needed 圆86 or x386 distribution of GNU Radio live CD which is not available. I was not able to save my work between sessions or find an easy way to transfer the live-cd image to my hard disk. Well this is only available to work with 64bit CPU architectures (AMD64). They also recommend using GNU Radio Live CD. I could not get this to boot from a USB stick. HackRF Wiki states to use a Pentoo image of Linux that already made. This process will go through how to install with PyBOMBS. To install a working copy of GNURadio (and GNURadio Companion) that can be used with a HackRF One.
